So with that in mind I wish to talk about the qualities a taster must look for and analyze. You can find five main characteristics that you are gonna need to comprehend to genuinely dismantle the taste of your certain wine: expressiveness, varietal character, connectedness,integration, and complexity.
Varietal character is just about the easiest to grasp; as with every different kind of fruit, certain kinds of grapes get their own unique characteristics. Those characteristics are not always enjoyed by everyone, and that's how you get more and more people preferring a specific form of wine. This is just one from the aspects you need to give attention to when analyzing a specific wine.
Another key ingredient that defines a fantastic vino is the expressiveness the wine has in terms of the flavors and nose (aroma) which can be well-defined. It's amazing the differences there may be between wines of the year within the same region. One is going to taste almost muted as the other's flavor is going to be incredibly clear and pronounced, all this communicates the expressiveness from the wine.
Complexity is within my opinion among the hardest qualities to place your finger on because it's not really a thing but more closely resembles a phenomenon of sorts. It is what makes a wine really gratifying to drink, it's the thing that keeps you coming back to sip more and uncover what else there is to locate inside that wine.
Some people appear to mix integration with complexity, or utilize the terms interchangeably when that's a big mistake. While complexity is much more subliminal, integration is more the "physical" marrying of acid, tannins, sugar and alcohol so when executed correctly whatever you taste may be the harmonious fusion of flavors within the wine.
Last but not least is the connectedness of the wine, and it is by far the most difficult quality to grasp. This trait is related to how in tune may be the wine having its cultural heritage, or perhaps the soil it was grown in. It sounds kind of funny or maybe even crazy, but usually it is extremely no problem finding when you're looking for it.
Most of these concepts are difficult to put a finger on and even more hard to ascertain from a sip of wine. If you truly start focusing on these items the very next time you are wine tasting it might take a little while but it will begin to make sense. You can find wines that show a particular trait more than others, like no one can deny the sheer expressiveness of a good New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. So again together with your next tasting think about these factors and then try to figure which traits are being shown with each wine.
