| 3 Solid Scuba Diving Lessons to Keep You Moving in The Right Direction |

Everyone goes through that beginning stage where it is easy to forget things and make simple mistakes, even though you are enthusiastic about scuba diving. Experience in a teacher is a great help, so find someone experienced to be paired with. Not only will you learn the little things that can make a difference, but your underwater adventures will be safer. The things that need to always be done at a certain time, get into a habit of doing them. If you are heading out on a boat for a dive, then do an equipment check before getting on the boat. The dive shop is another place that you need to check everything while you are still there. Unless you already own your own equipment, be certain you have rented the correct size.
We have mulled over the issue of air consumption and the need for proficiency in previous writings. To most experience divers, this is a popular focus. The intentions are focused on helping the new scuba diver as much as possible, though, because efficient breathing and use of air is important. An added hint is to utilize as little activity as possible when diving. Once you get a little experience, shoot for using your arms as little as possible. Your fins avail you of sufficient strength. To decrease your air consumption you should take on a restful stance for your arms and allow your fins to take on the job. Some things you will hear many times, so you never forget, in your classes for PADI certification. You should never forget the things that are stressed and repeated often because of their importance. You should never dive when you have a cold, is one of these things. The problem is caused by the congestion that normally accompanies a cold, and that can cause issues with equalization. "Reverse squeeze" is something that can happen when you are returning to the surface, when you are on cold medication, or just have a cold. We know you want to dive, but never dive with a cold.
Another tip to follow is to always begin equalizing prior to your descent in the water. The way that you do this is by accomplishing the Valsalva maneuver which is used by most divers to clean up their ears. You do not have to be a diver to have at least one time or another in your life done this particular process. Blowing your nose while holding it shut by pinching your nostrils, this is how the technique is accomplished. As you prepare to descend into the water, perform the Valsalva maneuver to get everything equalized.
This technique is most effective by doing it ahead of time so that your ears are pre-pressurized. What you will normally find is equalization will be much easier when you are descending.
No matter how good you are diving, never become complacent about your abilities which may lead to a dangerous scenario. Your mind will actually trick you into believing that you can handle any situation that arises no matter how dangerous or problematic it might be. By becoming lax in your thinking, you actually invite more problems to occur. You can actually stop properly preparing for a dive that you are about to take, which could lead to problems or serious scenarios that you won't be able to handle.
